HIPAA Compliance for the Dental Professional

You have a professional and ethical obligation to maintain the privacy and security of patient information. Three primary federal laws govern your legal responsibility: Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Health Information Technology for Clinical and Economic Health Act (HITECH) and the Omnibus Final Rule. This 10-hour course provides you with an in-depth review of these laws along with practical applications for dentistry.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  3. Compare regulatory requirements against your own current HIPAA compliance program
  4. Understand HIPAA requirements and apply them to your practice

Which credential is right for you?

All three levels contain the same core curriculum with distinctions between the amount of class participation, extra-curricular course work and/or credentials exam.

Level I: HIP101
This level is for professionals who prefer to simply obtain the information for their own knowledge, which can be applied as needed in their practice. If you are already a Compliance Coordinator or Privacy Officer, this level serves as an in-depth refresher. If you are new to compliance, this level is just right for you. No additional class work or exam required.
Level II: HIP201
This level is for those who prefer to receive a formal Certificate in HIPAA Compliance for the Dental Professional. Level II serves as a springboard if you are ready to advance your compliance expertise by completing additional class participation and extra-curricular course work.
Level III: HIP301
This level is for professionals who want to receive Certification Credentials and become a Certified Dental Specialist in HIPAA (CDSH™). This level validates your professional achievement and commitment to maintaining Certification Credentials. It requires completion of the Level II criteria along with successful completion of the third-party-administered credentials exam.
