Risk Management Essentials for Dental Professionals

Risk Management Essentials builds upon time-tested and proven risk management principles while introducing updated perspectives and principles, such as Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). In the ERM model, six different risk domains are identified, including patient-related risk. Integrating an ERM approach in your practice enables you to be more comprehensive in the identification, analysis and mitigation of various risks.

This 8-hour course reviews the essentials of risk management and helps you transition to an ERM model in support of patient safety as well as evolving practice models. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Define risk management and its role in your practice
  2. Discuss the relationship between risk management and quality improvement
  3. Identify the five steps in the risk management process
  4. Describe the six Enterprise Risk Management domains
  5. Examine and apply healthcare standards and regulations that impact dentistry

Which credential is right for you?

All three levels contain the same core curriculum with distinctions between the amount of class participation, extra-curricular course work and/or taking the credentials exam.

Level I: RIS101
This level is for professionals who prefer to obtain the information for their own knowledge, which can be applied as needed in their practice setting. If you are already a Compliance Officer or Coordinator, this level serves as an in-depth refresher. If you are new to compliance, this level is just right for you. No additional class work or exam required.
Level II: RIS201
This level is for those who prefer to receive a formal Certificate in Risk Management Essentials for Dental Professionals. Level II serves as a springboard if you are ready to advance your compliance expertise by completing additional class participation and extra-curricular course work.
Level III: RIS301
This level is for professionals who want to receive credentials and become a Certified Dental Specialist in Risk Management (CDSRM™). Level III validates your professional achievement and commitment to compliance. It requires completion of the Level II criteria along with successful completion of the third-party-administered credentials exam.
